Artist Statement
Anne McCormack RI’s work is often narrative, reflecting situations and locations she has encountered, both past and present. A sense of time, conveying a particular moment or atmosphere, is central to her practice.
Her inspiration comes from many sources, including travel, people in everyday situations, interiors and natural still-life objects that catch her eye. She is interested in transforming familiar subjects that might easily be passed by into something interesting and intriguing, encouraging closer observation.
For McCormack, painting is a process of constant observation and experimentation. She values the opportunity it provides to explore and appreciate the world while accepting that the creative process does not always reach its intended conclusion.
