RI Coronation Award

Coronation Award
Created by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 2023 in celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the RI Coronation Award is an annual schools competition for students aged 11–18 studying in UK schools.
The award celebrates excellence and creativity in water-based media, encouraging young artists to work with materials including watercolour, gouache, ink, acrylic and other water-soluble media on paper. Open to a wide range of subjects and approaches, the competition reflects the RI’s commitment to supporting both technical skill and individual expression.
The competition offers students the opportunity to have their work recognised and showcased as part of the RI Annual Exhibition at Mall Galleries, London. Prizes include awards for both students and schools, helping to support the continued development of art education and creative practice. Previous awards have included art materials prizes for winning students and materials bursaries for schools, directly supporting young artists and art departments.
The RI is extremely grateful to The Borg Scott Charity, which has generously supported the initiative through sponsorship and materials bursaries, helping to ensure that the competition continues to create meaningful opportunities for young artists and schools.
This competition attracts entries from schools across the UK and demonstrates an exceptional range of ideas, subjects and approaches by young artists.
