Artist Statement
In his paintings, Matthew Phinn aims to capture dynamic landscapes with a focus on light and mood. While maintaining the realism of the image, he also strives to create dynamic compositions through an expressive use of brush and paint. His studio work brings together his direct experience of plein air painting with a more considered and detailed approach, combining the immediacy of painting outdoors with a more deliberate studio process.
