Rosa Sepple

Biography

Rosa Sepple PPRI was born in London in 1951 to Italian/British parents and spent her formative years in Northern Italy, growing up with her Italian grandparents in Treviso, near Venice. She spent much of this time in the studio of her grandfather, Italian artist Salvatore Casagrande. After returning to England and raising two sons, she devoted herself to painting. Beginning her career in the late 1990s, she has developed a worldwide following of private collectors. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy and in France, Germany, Italy, Greece and China, as well as holding solo exhibitions throughout the UK. Her first book, ‘Out of the Blue’, was published in 2015.

Artist Statement

Rosa Sepple is a self-taught artist who began her painting career in the late 1990s. Now fully occupied as a painter, she creates vibrant and highly original figurative works combining observation, memory and imagination. Her compositions have a powerful visual strength and refreshing spontaneity, and she experiments continuously with watercolour, oil, acrylic, gouache, ink and collage to create textured surfaces and rich variations of colour and tone.

Much of her inspiration comes from ordinary people and everyday experiences and events, which she transforms into a dream-like world of her own. Her distinctive style brings a whimsical quality to her paintings: people appear to float or fly, while architecture leans or topples in magical directions to complement the composition. Pushing artistic boundaries whenever possible, Sepple embraces adventure, colour and spirit in her work.
