Artist Statement

I have been fascinated by drawing and painting since childhood. Whether at home or travelling, I take every opportunity to work outside, responding to seascapes, landscapes and urban scenes. The fleeting nature of light demands a direct approach, and many of my studies are completed in minutes rather than hours.

Watercolour is my principal medium. I use sketches made from direct observation to develop studio paintings while trying to retain the immediacy of the original experience. Light, colour and movement remain central to my work.
