Artist Statement
Steven Allan Griffiths RI’s work is rooted in a fascination with inanimate objects and the sense of drama that seemingly everyday forms can convey when depicted in a particular setting or relationship with one another.
Through meticulous observation, he seeks to draw out the potent information held within these objects, using watercolour in a sensitive and atmospheric way. His aim is to demonstrate a richness and depth not commonly associated with the medium.
Although the objects are carefully described, the paintings are not intended as straightforward representations. There is no intended symbolism within the work; any possible meanings are left open to individual interpretation.
